Our August doubles started on Monday August 8, with an opening program and then we started into our games with 88 people in attendance with many of our shufflers who had been in our Inter-Provincial tournament staying on to play with us. We had teams from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and of course our faithful Albertans.

Over the course of three days you have to keep winning to stay in the A event, after one loss you move to the B event and after two losses you are in the C event but have to keep winning after the third game or you are out of the tournament.

Many good friendships are made over each of these tournaments. On Monday night we held a Barbecued Hamburger Dinner at the Curling Rink. Again many of the competitors were camped out around the Curling Rink , or at the campgrounds or the local motels. Lunches and coffee were available at the tournament.

The winners in this tournament were:

A Event

1. Shirley Tucker, Stoney Plain, AB and Jack Sell, Olds, AB
2. Grant & Linda McRae, Ontario
3. Jessie Fledderus, Ontario & Arnold Empey, Red Deer
4. Melody & George Potter, British Columbia

B Event

1. Nicole Corbin & Bert Routheir, Fort Saskachewan, AB
2. Mildred & Gordon Potter. Strathmore, AB
3. Gayle & Bob Saunders, British Columbia
4. Helen & Brian Scott, Delburne, AB

Thanks again to all the workers and to the Tournament directors for all the work everyone puts in these events and of course thank you to all the people who stayed and helped to make this another great event. Many of the shuffleboarders were moving down to High River to play in their doubles tournament.
